THE CANNIBAL at Gotham West Market: Best Cuban Sandwich

The Cannibal - Gotham West Market - pig head cuban

Dear Food Diary:
I’ve never been a big fan of Cuban sandwiches until this past Saturday. I took at bite at The Cannibal’s Pigs Head Cuban Sandwich and wow, a flavor explosion. Hands down, the best Cuban Sandwich I’ve ever had.

The Cannibal at Gotham West Market surprised us with a brunch that went beyond eggs and toast. I want to make this my usual, regardless of what my doctor might say.

Land of Plenty: Where Chinese folks eat Chinese in Midtown East

land of plenty

Dear Food Diary:
We stumbles upon Land of Plenty one night after tennis class on the East side. I was hesitant. Chinese food right across from Bloomingdales? Could this authentic?

Imagine my surprise when I saw a sea of my peoples in the dining room! Did I just get transported to China?

So this is where Chinese folks eat Chinese food in Midtown East…

abc cocina: Flavorful tapas and small plates

abc cocina - decor

Dear Food Diary:
Like abc kitchen, abc cocina is a beautifully decorated space within abc carpet & home store.

Jean George plays with latin flavors, while adding his own twist. Flavorful tapas and small plates style menu, meant to be shared.

Sushi Yasaka: Amazingly affordable omakase on the UWS

Dear Food Diary:
As I looked back at 2013, Sushi Yasaka turned out to be my most visited restaurant (Opentable is probably sending my rewards check as I type).

A neighborhood Japanese spot that serves an amazing yet affordable omakase ($45) and mini omakase ($24).

Piora: More Monkey Bread Please!

Piora - bar

Dear Food Diary:
One of the best things about blogging is meeting other food lovers. When tabelog had it’s NY Judge meet ‘n greet a couple weeks ago, I met Yvonne and Terry from FilledwithSweets. We immediately made plans to a foodie dinner.

Piora was on top of all our lists and we were able to snatch a reservation for 3 on a weeknight.

Oh my… that monkey bread was the most memorable thing we had that night.
