Chocolats Aperitif: chocolate covered seeds and herbs for your foodie Valentine

Dear Food Diary:
If your other half is a foodie, you can surprise their taste buds this Valentine’s Day with these french Chocolat Aperitif: chocolate covered coriander seeds, fennel seeds and rosemary, a good departure from your usual heart shaped bonbons.
Isn’t the name adorable? oh, and the packaging, tres cute!
I got these complimentary from the PR of Fairway Market, they’ve just started selling them exclusively, at $7.99 each. I was pretty excited to try them, never thought of these combinations. Definitely interesting and very different.
Milk Chocolate Covered Coriander Seeds. I really didn’t know what to expect, familiar with the flavor profiles of Chinese parsley aka cilantro, but never tried the seeds. While I was expecting more of a fresh herb, it actually tasted like a good cup of Earl Grey tea and chocolate. Very pleasantly fragrant, by far my favorite of the 3. I love how just one tiny pearl is enough to infuse my mouth and linger for a couple minutes. When this can runs out, I will be getting myself another one. It’s like a tea and chocolate on the go.
White Chocolate Covered Rosemary. The cute shapes resembles Nerds candy, the flavor is straight forward and what you would expect, white chocolate and rosemary. The rosemary is prominent and the white chocolate overly sweet, I would of much preferred this with a dark chocolate, but then again, I’m not a fan of white chocolate in general.

White Chocolate Covered Fennel Seeds. Out of the 3, this had the most chocolate to seed ratio. I thought it balanced the fennel flavor well. It has this licorice/anise taste that’s not too overpowering. My least favorite of the 3, but that’s because I just don’t enjoy licorice/anise.
A conversation starter for sure, it’s fun to eat and share. Also a good way to satisfy a sweet craving without sacrificing all the calories, plus seeds have health benefits. Fit for any foodie in your life, specially your Valentine. Find them at a Fairway Market near you.
P.S. Chubby’s RATING: 3/4
