Mama Theresa’s: Eat and Shop ’til you drop in Long Island

Dear Food Diary:
I love shopping, and I love food, so getting both fixes in one day is a total indulgence, next to a day at the spa.

Century 21 Department Store use to be “NY’s Best Kept Secret”, this was 10 years ago, now, every tourist knows about it, it’s in every guide book, yada yada yada. The NYC store looks like a tornado just went by, with so many people in one store, I usually feel suffocated, that’s not a good way to shop. Thank goodness for Westbury, Long Island. This store is spacious, with high ceilings, good variety, organized, great price, but most importantly, less people! An inviting stroll down racks of Designer Brands at Walmart prices (ok, maybe not that cheap, but you get the idea).
After hours of shopping (my preferred exercise, hehe) I like to fill my tummy with an homey Italian meal at Mama Theresa’s, which is a couple steps away, both in the same complex. This is like a Combo, can’t go to one without the other.

Mama Theresa’s is a real casual, comforting family restaurant. Stretchy pants are your friend here, trust me. Food is always fresh, generous portions, reasonable prices and consistently yummy.

My all time favorite appetizer is their Calamari Arrabbiata, golden brown calamari tossed with flame kissed peppers, combined in a spicy sauce.

It’s hot, crunchy, garlicky, with tons of tomato flavor and super fresh. The Arrabbiata sauce which is made with smoked chili peppers and fire roasted tomatoes, gives it a nice smokey taste. The portion is huge and it’s best shared, unless your solo, this is more than enough as a main dish.

Their Red Clam Sauce, is another must order. There’s so much clam, your promised at least a couple little clams in every bite. Plus for a mere $2 extra, they add a handful of whole shelled Little Neck Clams. I love clams, so this was love at first bite.

I’ve tried it with different pastas, and the winner (not pictured) has to be Gnocchi. The abundant sauce and soft gnocchi just work in a flavorful symphony. Melts in your mouth, while the sauce is garlicky, tart/sweet and chunky. So so good, can’t say I’ve been transported to Italy, but definitely an Italian mama’s kitchen.
There’s also great salads and pastas, but over the years, I seem to go back again and again for the same dishes, why change something that’s so good rite?

What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
